Every revolution needs a hero.
Mine started way earlier than Empteez.ca.
I’m Tim “Can Man” Kemsley — founder of Empteez.ca and the official Can Man. And yeah… I didn’t grow up with easy breaks.
As a teenager, I lived on the streets. Food banks. Shelters. Surviving.
Fast-forward.
After 23 years of marriage and raising kids, I rebuilt my life. Brick by brick. And I wanted to build something with purpose. Something that made it easier for regular people to do the right thing!
That’s where Can Man comes in.
Not as a costume. Not as a character.
As a real person showing up for you and your neighborhood, making curbside aluminum can pickup simple, trackable, and actually kind of fun. 🎸
The Guy Who Started It All
I’m not chasing fame. I just love three things: rock music, my community, and a cold beverage after a long day.
But I had a problem.
Every weekend, my garage would fill up with empties. Aluminum cans from everywhere. Pop. Energy drinks. You name it. Friends would come by, we’d jam, and by Sunday night? My garage looked like a depot exploded.

And I knew those cans were worth money. I knew they shouldn’t end up in a landfill. But here’s the thing: the depot trips were a nightmare. Loading bags. Driving across town. Waiting in line. Sorting. Counting. Getting your hands sticky from mystery liquids.
It sucked the soul out of recycling.
One night, surrounded by towers of empties and the echo of power chords, I thought: "There's gotta be a better way."
That thought changed everything.
When Survival Turned Into Something Bigger
At first, convenient aluminum can recycling pickup was just a dream.
But for me? It was personal.
What started as survival became empowerment. A way to take something small (an empty aluminum can) and turn it into momentum for families, teams, and causes!
So I didn’t just imagine a better way.
I built it.
I started small. Picking up bagged aluminum cans from neighbors on my street. Counting them. Keeping it simple. Showing people their empties had value — and their time mattered too.
Then I built a platform through Empteez.ca so you can track your impact and raise funds together. Real progress. Real community. Right from your curb!
Word spread fast.

Soon, I wasn’t just picking up from my street. I was doing entire neighborhoods. Schools started calling. Sports teams. Community groups raising money for new equipment or charity drives.
And that's when Tim “Can Man” Kemsley realized something huge: People didn't hate recycling. They just hated the hassle.
Take away the hassle? Everyone wants in.
This Is How Can Man Was Born
My friends started calling me Can Man as a joke. But it didn’t stay a joke for long.
Because once you’ve lived through the hard stuff… you don’t build things for attention.
You build them for a purpose!
Can Man became the voice of curbside aluminum can recycling — and yep, the official spokesperson for Empteez.ca. My job is to keep it simple, keep it honest, and make it easier for you to turn bagged cans into real impact!
And just like that, what used to be survival turned into a real movement. A platform. A way for people to track impact, earn instantly, and raise funds without the depot hassle.
He'd roll up to houses blasting classic rock. He'd chat with families about their fundraising goals. He'd high-five kids who were collecting cans for their soccer team.
Recycling wasn't a chore anymore. It was fun. It was community. It was making a difference.
And those aluminum cans? They weren't trash. They were opportunity. They were 5 cents each. They were money for hockey equipment. They were donations to local causes. They were a cleaner planet.
Tim “Can Man” Kemsley proved that when you make recycling effortless, people don't just participate: they get excited about it.
The Ripple Effect 🌊
Can Man's impact went way beyond just collecting aluminum cans.
Schools that couldn't afford new playground equipment? They ran can drives and raised thousands. Youth sports teams scraping by? They funded entire seasons with aluminum can collections.
Local charities found a new revenue stream. Families discovered they'd been throwing away money every recycling day. Neighborhoods got cleaner because people actually cared about their empties.

But here's the thing I always say that sticks with people:
"Every aluminum can you recycle is a small act of rebellion against waste. String enough of those acts together, and you've got a revolution."
That's the Can Man philosophy. Small actions. Big impact. Zero hassle.
And it works because I believe something simple: People want to do good. They just need it to be easy.
The Legend Lives On 💚
Today, the spirit of Can Man lives on in every convenient can pickup, every fundraiser that hits its goal, and every person who realizes they don't have to choose between doing the right thing and having time for what matters.
